Or, maybe, because it's nearly Friday, an alternative title should be How Mr Splashy Pants Got His Name. 

Either way this video shows just how quickly something can have an impact online.

Greenpeace may have wanted to name the whale it was tracking something more earthly but ultimately the online community had its way.



 


Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian calls it a '3 minute guide to social media success because essentially it shows how quickly an idea can gain traction. 

Whether you like it or not, there is no holding back the power of the online community - but that's not necessarily always a bad thing.
